Klutzy: It’s A Way Of Life For Me

What happens when you’re a klutzy mama who loves to cook?

Lots of accidents, that’s what.

Sunday mornings are usually pretty chaotic in our house, with everyone scrambling to get ready for church.  We usually don’t have time for a nice breakfast.  So yesterday, I put together a breakfast casserole and put it in the fridge so that all I had to do this morning was pop it in the oven and we’d have a nice sit down breakfast before church.

So, I jumped in the shower while it was baking, got ready, got the rest of the crew up and going, then went to pull the casserole out of the oven and ended up with a nasty burn on my arm.

101_3957Why do my eyes look so freaky here???

You can’t tell in the picture, but it’s a pretty nasty burn that is raised and blistered.  I went to pull it out of the oven and I had an oven mitt on each hand and one side of it just slipped.  I still had a hold of it with the other hand, but the thing was so heavy that it slid down and burnt my arm.  I quickly grabbed it up with my other hand, so that none of it spilled, it was on my arm maybe 2 seconds.  Just long enough to give me a nice burn.

It ain’t easy being klutzy.

And in other news…

I have got basil up to my eyeballs!

I’ve been putting it in just about everything we eat and making lots of pesto.  Here is a great recipe for pesto that I got from Cooking During Stolen Moments.  I just love that blog.  I’ve tried a few of her recipes and so far we’ve loved all of them.  I love to put pesto in with our pasta.  I’m making it and freezing it in batches.

AND – we had 2 ripe cherry tomatoes yesterday!  The girls quickly devoured them.  I’m so excited to start getting tomatoes out of the garden…hopefully it won’t be too much longer!

Ouch! That’s a nasty one. Put some aloe on it.
I usually end up with my accidents happening outside. Like getting my leg burnt on the tiller exhaust. Just a split second and I’m in pain.
Anytime you get a burn like that, immediately put cold water on it. It helps take the burn out.
I’m glad your garden is doing good. It’s so exciting when it’s your first garden.

I am so sorry. That looks like it hurts. I would be whining all day!

You poor thing – what all do you put in pesto because I have a TON of basil as well? Give me some ideas, please.

Ouch! That looks really painful! We have tons of basil here too… This year I am trying to preserve it by blending it with olive oil and then freezing portions in ice cube trays for the winter. MMM – tomato basil soup… 🙂 Now, my cilantro does not want to grow anything but flowers. Maybe next year.
