Ugly Recycling

Do you recycle?

We do.  It causes quite an ugly eye sore in my kitchen, but it helps reduce the number of trash bags we haul off to the dump and it’s good for the earth.

I think it also helps teach the girls an important lesson about being kind to this beautiful planet that God gave to us.  Afterall, they (and their children and their children’s childeren…) will be the ones left to deal with the damage that has been done so far.

This is our ugly recycling station.  I wish there was a way to make it prettier…there probably is, but I’m not all that fancy.

We recycle plastic, cardboard, glass and paper.  The plastic tote houses the cardboard, glass and plastic.  The 3 brown paper bags hold newspaper, regular paper and magazines.

The big recycling container comes to town on the 2nd Satuday of every month and Brian gets the pleasure of hauling it all up to the utility company to get rid of it.

That big mess in our kitchen has to be emptied and taken to the basement once a month because we tend to get overloaded, so each month we send off roughly double what you see in the picture to be recycled.

It saves us about 1 or 2 trash bags a week.  Not too shabby. : )

We do some recycling, but not as much as we should…that is one area I am trying to get better with. Good for you!

We recycle newspaper (tall kitchen trash can), Plastic, glass, aluminum cans (large trash bin with lid) and cardboard (large trash bin with lid & wheels). We keep ours in the garage. Usually is sits on the edge of the kitchen counter and once a day we take it out to the garage. Then once a week we have to haul it to the landfill. We save a ton of gargage by recycling. It makes me feel good. We typically will only have one or two bags of actual garbage a week.

Thanks to our city making it so easy we have taken up recycling. They provide bags to divide paper, plastic and bottles, they also provide yard waste containers for all the leaves plants limbs the lawn service runs from early march to November, it can be used for Christmas trees(need to cut it up) and it is only for a very brief period after Christmas Our yard waste gets picked up on Mondays and our recycle bags get picked up on Thursdays. We us old laundry baskets to hold the bags, makes it look alittle neater in the garage.

We recycle, too. Plastic goes in an outdoor trash container that sits outside the back door. Newspaper and magazines go into seperate paper bags. With all that I recycle I usually only have one bag of trash per week. We have what is called Convienience Centers to take our trash and recyclables to. They include places for metal, motor oil, batteries, textiles, electronics….
