Frustration

I need to vent for a minute…

We’ve been sending Brian’s resume out to pretty much every job that is available right now. We’re desperate for anything.  He’s willing to do anything.

The frustrating thing is that a lot of the jobs that he’s applying for, he’s over-qualified for and I think that this is causing people to not even interview him, even though he’s willing to take less pay than he’s used to.  A lady actually told him on the phone today that they were interested in him (this would be for the landscaping supervisor’s job) but that his resume made them slightly afraid to hire him because of his qualifications.  She would not come out and say how much the job paid, but she insinuated that he might be better off just drawing the unemployment. Unemployment is paying less than half of what he was making before (and we’ve yet to receive any of it).  He wants to work – even if he’s only making the same as what unemployment would pay, he would rather be out there actually earning a living than sitting at home.

But here’s what I don’t get…if they’re hiring a supervisor, doesn’t it make sense that they would want a reliable person in this position?  And if so, shouldn’t they be willing to pay for that?  I mean, unemployment is paying him roughly $10 an hour – is she trying to say that a supervisor is not worth at least that much to them?  We are not so naive as to think that he’s going to go anywhere and make what he was making before, but I get the feeling that some companies may be taking advantage of people because there are so many unemployed right now that they don’t have to pay what a job is really worth.

And then there have been a very few jobs that actually fit with his qualifications and no one has called him about those…it’s just so frustrating.

I’m trying to be optimistic.  I’m trying to have faith…but it’s wearing me down right now.

We’ve not received anything from food stamps or from unemployment yet.  He’s been unemployed for over a month now.

Still, God is good and He is taking care of us.  We’ve still got a place to live and food to eat.  Thank you to those family members who have helped us out with cash and also to the anonymous person who gave us money (in case you happen to be a reader), because of all of you we might actually be able to make our house payment this month!  So thank you, thank you, thank you!
