Katie’s fast-pitch team played in the Bunny Hop Classic in Shelbyville on Saturday. This year Katie moved up to the next age group and so, this is a new team entirely. There are only 2 girls on the team that she’s played with before.
Here she is bright & early. Probably not really awake yet, but smiling at least.
And her sister ready to cheer her on. (Right. She takes off with another little sister from the team and they are in their own little world without a clue as to what’s happening in the games. Oh well, at least she dresses the part anyway.)
Here are some of the girls warming up before the first game. It was freezing that morning. Our first game was at 9:30 and we played back to back all day until 7:00 that night. We all came out a little sun/wind burnt from sitting outside all day. We got our pasty white winter skin broken in.
We lost the first game, but then played & won 5 games, coming up out of the loser’s bracket, to make it to the championship game & face the team that beat us in the first game. We got beat, but later found out that the team that we took 2nd place to is one of the best in the state with their own practice facility and who play all year round. I was really impressed & proud of our girls for doing so well not only for their first tourney, but also against such a tough competitor.
Katie’s highlight of the tournament was laying down a beautiful bunt and making it to first base. She then stole 2nd and later scored, sliding in safe at home on a close play at the plate.
